South Dakota State ranked for First Time in 2012-2013 Season

In the most split coaches poll of the season, South Carolina will head in to the mid-season break as the No. 1 team in the country, as the Gamecocks narrowly edged Auburn to hold on to the top spot. The Gamecocks received six first place votes, while the Tigers received four, and Oklahoma State received two.

Georgia and Texas A&M were both tied for the top spot when the preseason poll was released on Sept. 19. Both teams find themselves tied again, this time for the No. 3 spot.

Oklahoma State moves up one spot to No. 5, as the Cowgirls dropped Kansas State, 15-7, on Nov. 17. The Wildcats drop one spot down to No. 6 after seeing their six-meet winning streak come to an end.

Baylor moves up one spot to No. 7, as the Bears ended the fall with three straight wins over Fresno State, South Carolina, and TCU. The Horned Frogs drop one spot back to No. 8.

South Dakota State is the big mover in this week’s poll, as the Jackrabbits find themselves ranked for the first time this season. After upset wins over Georgia and New Mexico State, South Dakota State is ranked ninth.

Southern Methodist holds steady at No. 10, as the Mustangs are 6-2 in Hunt Seat action this season, including an upset win over South Carolina to end the fall season on Nov. 18.

The collegiate coaches competing under the National Collegiate Equestrian Association umbrella initiated the national poll. This is the final coaches poll of the fall semester. NCEA action will start back up in January.
